The Global Compact is a network-based initiative which aims to promote responsible corporate citizenship and enlists the support of the business sector in achieving a more sustainable and equitable global economy. Currently there are more than 2400 companies signed up to the Global Compact with 47 Global Compact national networks.
The Global Compact promotes corporate social responsibility by focusing on the achievement of UN goals in four key areas; human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Participants in the network are expected to implement a set of 10 universal principles which set out best practice in the achievement of these goals.
The Global Compact is a voluntary network with members demonstrating progress in improved business practices by publishing results in annual financial reports and other corporate publications.
It involves all relevant societal actors; governments, companies, labour, civil society organizations and the United Nations. It is under the leadership of the latter that the Global Compact Office acts as network facilitator. For more information on the Global Compact worldwide please visit:
