United Nations in Ukraine proposes to familiarize with the New Urban Agenda in Ukrainian language.

New Urban Agenda was approved by the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, the capital of Ecuador,on October 2016. The program includes 175 items and covers various aspects of Urban Studies:

  • sustainable and social urban prosperity and opportunities for all;
  • sustainable urban development for social integration;
  • overcoming poverty;
  • environmentally sustainable and sustainable urban development;
  • creation of a favorable basis for the construction of a municipal management structure.

The urban population of the world will increase almost twice, therefore, urbanization will be one of the most radical trends of the XXI century by 2050.

There is an improvement in the quality of life of millions of urban dwellers, but the persistence of multiple forms of poverty, growing inequalities and environmental degradation remain one of the main obstacles to ensuring sustainable development throughout the world.

Culture is played an important role and cultural diversity, which is a source of human enrichment and contributes significantly to the sustainable development of cities, settlements and citizens, giving them the opportunity to play an active and unique role in development initiatives.

The purpose of Agenda is creating such cities and settlements, where all people can enjoy equal rights and opportunities and their basic freedoms.

New Urban Agenda is universal and puts the human interests in the first place, protects the planet and, based on a long-term concept, sets priorities and actions at the global, regional, national, subnational and local levels.
