5 June 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine. Today, on the World Environment Day, the opening of the exhibition and awarding ceremony of the national photography contest “Addressing Climate Change – Caring About Our Planet” take place in Kyiv. Over 980 Ukrainians submitted their photos taken in 45 countries all over the world to the photocontest that is conducted for the first time in Ukraine by the United Nations office in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and with support of the Olympus company.

4 June 2008. New-York – UN Secretary-General addressed world community on the eve of World Environment Day. This Day’s slogan for 2008 is Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy. Recognizing that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, Ban Ki-moon is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them.

4 June 2008. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on world leaders gathered at a United Nations summit in Rome to take "bold and urgent" steps to tackle the global food crisis, including boosting food production and revitalizing agriculture to ensure long-term food security.

3 June 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - The UN refugee agency and International Organizsation for Migration on behalf on the Diversity Initiative, a network of over 30 organizations from the international, civil, corporate  and government sectors, working to address suspected racially-motivated crimes in Ukraine, express their grave concern about the murder of a Nigerian national, which occurred in Kyiv last week.

30 May 2008. New York. George Clooney is marking Thursday's 60th anniversary of U.N. peacekeeping with a public service announcement praising the soldiers who wear the distinctive blue helmets. Clooney was named a U.N. Messenger of Peace in January by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with a special focus on U.N. peacekeeping. He has been actively campaigning to end the five-year conflict in Darfur and traveled to visit peacekeepers in Sudan soon after his appointment.

29 May, 2008. Kyiv-New York. Today the International Day of UN Peacekeepers is observed worldwide to pay  tribute to people serving in peacekeeping operations and to honour memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace. Sixe decades ago the first UN peacekeeping mission was deployed.  In Ukraine, a series of events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of UN peacekeeping were organized by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and supported by the United Nations office in Ukraine. 

28 May 2008. New-York – Kyiv - "This year, the annual International Day of UN Peacekeepers also marks the 60th anniversary of UN peacekeeping. Six decades ago today, the Security Council established our first peacekeeping mission. Most of the peacekeepers came from a handful of European and American countries and they were mostly unarmed military men observing and monitoring cease-fire lines", says UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon in his statement to the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.   

23 May 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - In September 2000 at Millennium Summit in New-York Ukraine signed the “Millennium Declaration”. When signing the Declaration Ukraine took upon the responsibility to achieve Millennium Development Goals in the sphere of development by 2015 in six different directions: poverty reduction, providing of life-long quality education, sustainable environmental development, improvement of maternal health and children mortality reduction, fighting HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis and promotion of gender equality

WHO, UNICEF and CDC regret the suspension of the national measles and rubella vaccination campaign.  The decision will have long term implications not only for the measles and rubella campaign but for routine immunization coverage, resulting in the potential for outbreaks of other infectious diseases.   

18 May 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine. On the occasion of World AIDS Memorial Day on May 18, United Nations Volunteer programme jointly with International Alliance on HIV/AIDS in Ukraine are organising the Living Library project, to take place in Kyiv Tarasa Shevchenko Park from 11 am till 5 pm.

The way Ukraine’s leadership and society embrace the opportunities offered by European integration process will have a direct impact on the country’s human development prospects.  If Kiev pursues its European aspirations and treats the European ‘agenda’ as the main organising framework for the process of vital reforms, Ukraine can achieve real improvements for the quality of life, poverty reduction and social exclusion.

When the flow of information is hindered -- whether for political or technological reasons -- our capacity to function is stunted.

25 April 2008, New York - Kyiv — At a high-level meeting of UN agencies convened today to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident on 26 April 1986, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented a draft “action plan” covering UN work on Chernobyl until 2016. Preparation of the plan was mandated by a 2007 General Assembly resolution, which proclaimed 2006-2016 the Decade of Recovery and Sustainable Development of areas affected by Chernobyl. The aim of the Decade is to promote a “return to normal life” for the region. After review by the International Atomic Energy Agency, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, and other agencies involved in recovery efforts, the UN action plan will be approved later this year.

21 April 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - This was a question of an Afghan refugee woman, interviewed by independent legal and socio-economic experts, who studied the situation of local integration of refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. In the course of the study, carried out within the framework of the Soderkoping Process, around 300 interviews with refugees, NGOs and authorities had been conducted in the three countries

Kyiv, Ukraine - Today UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States Kori Udovički met the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk. Earlier this day, Kori Udovicki also met with Shely Esque, Intel Global Director for Corporate Affairs, visiting Kyiv to discuss partnership within the UN Global Compact in Ukraine. 18 April 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine – The UN general Assembly proclaimed 2008 the International Year of Languages to promote multilingualism and unity in diversity. In Ukraine, the languages festival “Ecology of Communications” is organized throughout the country on 11-20 April 2008.

17 April, 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - Today UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Assistant Administrator Kori Udovicki has met Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine on European and International Integration Grygoriy Nemyrya. Earlier this day Kori Udovicki has taken part in the opening of the 18th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization and met First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Volodymyr Khandogiy.
