UN Secretary General: The world is changing in the United Nations’ favour -- as more people and Governments understand that multilateralism is the only path in our interdependent and globalizing world. Global problems demand global solutions -- and going it alone is not a viable option. Whether we are speaking of peace and security, development, or human rights, demands on our Organization are growing every day.

According to the agreement, the bilateral cooperation will be aimed at providing UN-led assistance to the Ukrainian government, namely the Main Department of Civil Service of Ukraine, in the area of institutional reforms, focusing on support to the process of civil service development within the framework of administration reform in Ukraine. 

October 22, 2007. Kyiv, Ukraine. The United Nations Office in Ukraine and the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund signed a Memorandum on Mutual Understanding as part of the Global Compact Initiative in Ukraine. The Memorandum is aimed at promoting cooperation between the UN and Ukraine 3000 Fund in the spheres of human development, social inclusion, young people empowerment, bridging the generation gap and enforcing dialogue, strengthening  responsible citizenship.

October 19-21, 2007 in the art house "Actor" in Yalta UNFPA Youth Conference «Healthy youth - healthy future» was conducted. The main goal of the conference was to present and discuss successful experience and working results to define challenges and ways of further improvements in the area of youth health. Almost 70 people took part in the conference. Among the participants there were students of Ukrainian higher educational institutions, members of UNFPA Youth Network KRONA, members of UNFPA Youth Advisory Panel, winners of the UNFPA mini-grants contest, as well as youth focal points from Republic of Belarus.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Ukraine hosted its Third Annual Counter-Trafficking Awards Ceremony on October 18th 2007. The Ceremony, which took place at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), honoured individuals and organizations that have distinguished themselves with dedication and courage in the fight against human trafficking. The event was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, and with the financial support of USAID/Ukraine and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

18 October, 2007: Over 38.7 million people, in 110 countries have broken the Guinness World Record - set last year at 23.5 million - for the largest number of people to "STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY" in 24 hours. Ukraine for the first time joined "STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY". On 17th October 4926 people in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Khmelnitsky and Slavutych, Borodyanka, Ivankiv stood up simultaneously and supported the global movement against poverty.

The UN Country Team in Ukraine would like to inform partners that it no longer has institutional cooperation of any sort with the Inter-regional Academy of Personnel Management (MAUP).

In different cities of Ukraine 4926 people symbolically stood up to support the global movement against poverty and set a new Guinness World Record.

Stand Up and Speak Out is the growing movement of people no longer prepared to stay seated or silent in the face of poverty and inequality. About 5000 Ukrainians joined world campaign against poverty on 17 October!  In Ukraine Stand Up and Speak Out  events took place for the first time across the country. On 17th October in Ukraine, 4926 people in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Khmelnitsky and Slavutych, Borodyanka, Ivankiv stood up simultaneously and supported the global movement against poverty.  People united to stand up and challenge the world record. Newly elected members of the UNFPA Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) met at UNFPA Country Office, Kyiv, on 28 September, 2007. The main goal of YAP is to provide assistance to UNFPA in coordination of activities targeting young people and develop recommendations regarding future activities.

On Friday- 21 September 2007 - the International Day of Peace - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will honour Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein of Jordan, First Lady of Dubai; Israeli/Argentinean conductor Daniel Barenboim; Brazilian author Paulo Coelho and Japanese-American violinist Ms. Midori Goto by designating them as United Nations Messengers of Peace.
