15 June 15, 2007. Kyiv, Ukraine. The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon voiced sadness at the death of Kurt Waldheim, the former United Nations chief and Austrian President who has died at the age of 88.

Ecological problems remain underestimated and not reflected in state strategy and budget process, specialists say. Low priority of ecological components in the country’s overall national development programmes discourages foreign investors and international funds, according to a new report launched today by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine.

Leaders of the Group of Eight (G8) today announced plans to increase funding for AIDS to at least US$ 60 billion over the coming years, and invited other donors to contribute as well. This represents the largest commitment to increase funding for AIDS in the history of the epidemic. The announcement was made this morning at the G8 Summit in Heiligendamm, Germany.

In resolution 47/237 of 20 September 1993, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that 15 May of every year shall be observed as the International Day of Families.
