The United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) announces the first call for proposals of innovative projects targeted at developing and strengthening democratic institutions, promoting human rights and ensuring all groups participation in the democratic process. The United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) was established in July 2005 by the UN Secretary-General as a United Nations General Trust Fund under his authorities. UNDEF aims to provide strategic support to catalyze democracy and human rights initiatives around the world.

On 3 April 2006 the United Nations in Ukraine along with the Ukrainian Mine Action Coordination Centre, the Mine Survivors Union hosted a press-conference devoted to the First International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action to be commemorated on 4 April 2006.
