Today the UN System Senior Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza Dr. David NABARRO met with the President of Ukraine Viktor YUSHCHENKO to discuss the threat of Avian Influenza pandemic in the country.

On February 14-15, 2005 Dr. David NABARRO, Designated Representative of the UN Secretary-General, UN System Senior Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza will pay an official visit to Ukraine to discuss with the President of Ukraine and other senior officials the threat of Avian Influenza (AI) pandemic and to offer coordinated international assistance in ensuring preparedness for possible AI epidemic in the country.

A National Conference on the Reduction of Drug Related Harm will take place in Kyiv February 15 – through February 17, 2006. The International Pledging Conference on Avian and Human Pandemic Influenza was convened in Beijing, China on 17-18 January 2006 under the co-sponsorship of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the European Commission and the World Bank and in close coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
