Artiomovsk (currently Bakhmut) is a city in the government-controlled area of Donetsk region, located 17 km from the contact line. Many of those who fled the conflict live here in need of humanitarian assistance.

29 July 2016 - Only 150 people remain in Orlovske, a small village in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region only a few kilometres from the frontline. Originally home to 5,000 people before the conflict, now mostly the elderly and families who have nowhere else to go stayed behind. Shelling has destroyed the water supply and the bridge which used to connect the village. Residents now use rain water from the only well in the village and try to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst very difficult circumstances.

23 April 2016 – UNICEF has launched its flagship youth initiative U-Report in Ukraine. More than 800 young people from all over Ukraine gathered at the U-Report Interactive Workshop to join this new initiative.

19 April 2016 - The UN Refugee Agency together with Book Arsenal organizes the Second Charity Book Drive for displaced people and communities in Eastern Ukraine. The book drive will take place in the framework of the largest book industry fair on 20 – 24 April  2016 as part of the Mystetskiy Arsenal Charity Project.

15 April 2016 - When living conditions for households along the conflict line in Eastern Ukraine went from bad to worse, help came from the Government of Canada. The allocation of CDN 3 million will bolster and extend FAO’s emergency response and recovery work in the area.

12 April 2016 - The United Nations is deeply concerned about the fact that one of its staff members is being held captive in Donetsk. Information available is that the staff is well treated.

5 April 2016 - The two-year long conflict in eastern Ukraine has left around 1.5 million people hungry, including almost 300,000 people who are severely food insecure and in need of immediate food assistance.

21 March 2016 – A new Open Government Partnership (OGP) Independent Reporting Mechanism (IRM) report on Ukraine finds that despite recent political turmoil, notable progress has been made in passing laws to improve access to government held information. However, more efforts are needed to improve government accountability.

29 March 2016 - Six social institutions in villages and towns of Donetsk region have recently reopened their doors for visitors after the refurbishment, funded by the European Union and conducted by IOM.

4 March 2016 – This week an official opening of the kindergarten N°6  for children with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) took place in Sloviansk. The kindergarten was renewed by the UN Refugee Agency.

1 April 2016 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine is aware of the Pechersk court decision as of 22 March 2016 allowing investigative officers of the Prosecutor General’s Office in Ukraine to inspect financial records and extract items and documents belonging to the Anticorruption Action Centre NGO.
