29 May 2018 - on May 29th, 1948, the United Nations Security Council authorized the first United Nations peacekeeping operation – the UN Truce Supervision Organization in the Middle East. On this 70th anniversary, we express our gratitude to the more than one million men and women who have served under the UN flag, saving countless lives.

23 May 2018, Geneva/Kyiv – The United Nations Independent Expert on debt and human rights recognised that Ukraine has progressed in its fight against illicit financial flows but warned that economic reforms without clear safeguards for human rights can further entrench inequality and poverty.

16 May 2018, Severodonetsk, Luhansk Oblast – A delegation from the Embassy of Japan visited conflict-affected areas in eastern Ukraine on May 15-16 to assess the recovery and development projects implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) with financial support from the Government of Japan.

4 May 2018 – More than four years of conflict in eastern Ukraine have taken a devastating toll on the education system, destroying and damaging hundreds of schools and forcing 200,000 girls and boys to learn in militarized environments, amid volatile fighting and dangers due to unexploded weapons of war, UNICEF said today. 

8 May 2018 - Over 40,000 residents of Ukraine’s conflict-affected Donbas region will benefit from nine community centres – libraries and cultural centres – renovated by IOM, the UN Migration Agency, with funding from the Government of Japan.

7 May 2018 - For four years armed conflict has consumed eastern Ukraine. Civilians continue to be killed and injured, and critical civilian infrastructure is routinely targeted and damaged. Today, 3.4 million people in Ukraine urgently require humanitarian assistance and protection, but the international humanitarian appeal to help address these needs is shockingly only 5 per cent funded. The humanitarian response plan urgently needs US$181 million to close the funding gap.

4 May 2018 - 54% of internally displaced persons (IDPs) have funds only for food or have to limit expenses even for food, according to an EU-funded surveyconducted in March 2018. This is a 10% increase from the previous round of the survey in December 2017.

27 April 2018 - The Ministry of Health of Ukraine (MoH) signed agreements with international organizations for procurement of medicines and healthcare products for the 2018 state budget. This would allow international organizations to announce the first tenders soon.

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine believes the grinding four-year conflict in the east is being “forgotten” with thousands of ceasefire violations being recorded each month.

24 April 2018 - Countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia need better engagement in global sustainable livestock processes when developing national policies for their livestock production sectors. 

(New York, 20 April) – The Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Mr. Neal Walker, today briefed Member States and International Organizations on the dire humanitarian situation faced by 4.4 million conflict-affected people in eastern Ukraine.

On 7 April, World Health Day, the World Health Organization marks its 70th anniversary. This year, World Health Day is dedicated to one of WHO’s founding principles: “The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.”

4 April 2018, On the occasion of the International Mine Action Awareness Day, the Government of Ukraine and representatives of international organizations call for the protection and safety of 2 million Ukrainian men, women and children in eastern Ukraine, who face constant insecurity due to contamination from landmines and explosive remnants of the armed conflict.

23-25 March 2018 – to observe the 20th anniversary of Model United Nations in Ukraine United Nations together with Kyiv Business Lyceum, Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University and Kyiv School of Economics held a Conference for organizers and active participants of Model United Nations from all over Ukraine. Participants had a chance to model two United Nations bodies – General Assembly and Security Council. Pupils and young participants modelled the work of the General Assembly while students focused on the work of the Security Council.

19 March 2018, Kyiv – There is a systemic lack of accountability for human rights violations in Ukraine, according to a report published today by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission. It calls for perpetrators of human rights violations and abuses to be held responsible for their actions and for victims to obtain justice.

8 March, 2018 – The world celebrates International Women’s Day, dedicated to the rural women and girls this year. Rural women make up over a quarter of the total world population and represent approximately 43% of the agricultural labour force. Rural women are key agents for achieving the transformational economic, environmental and social changes required for sustainable development.

On 12-21 March 2018, to advance the achievement of Ukraine of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a group of UN agencies’ experts will visit Ukraine to support contextualization and adaptation of the Sustainable Development Goals and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to the needs and priorities of Ukraine through mainstreaming, acceleration and policy support approach (MAPS: M-Mainstreaming, A-Acceleration, PS-Policy Support).

28 February 2018, The European Union, EU Member States, the European Parliament and International Organizations were today in Brussels briefed on the dire humanitarian situation faced by 4.4 million conflict-affected people in eastern Ukraine by the Ukraine Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs, the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine and other representatives.
