27 January 2010. Kyiv, Ukraine - Ukrainian Center for
Holocaust Studies supported by the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine held
the annual round-table meeting “Ukrainian Society and Holocaust
Commemoration: Educational Perspective”, devoted to the International
Holocaust Commemoration Day marked annually according to the UN Resolution # 60/7. This day in 1945 the Soviet army liberated the Nazi
death camp Auschwitz, located on Polish territories, where about one
million Jews from all over Europe had been murdered.
27 January 2010. New-York - Kyiv - On the occasion of
the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon emphasized that Holocaust survivors will
not be with us forever – but the legacy of their survival must live
on. We must preserve their stories – through memorials… through
education… most of all through robust efforts to prevent genocide and
other grave crimes.
26 January 2010. – On 20 January UN Representative Office
in Ukraine launched Nationwide Children Drawing Contest “Children of
the world, join your hands!” on the occasion of the International Year
of the Rapprochement of Cultures. The goal of the contest is conflicts
prevention through human rights and tolerance promotion among children.
22 January 2010 – As relief efforts continue in the wake of the devastating quake which struck Haiti last week, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today emphasized the need to rebuild the impoverished Caribbean nation and “turn disaster into opportunity.”
The disaster in Haiti shows once again something that we, as human beings, have always known: that even amid the worst devastation, there is always hope.
13 January 2010 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today issued an urgent call to the international community to assist Haiti following yesterday’s catastrophic earthquake that has devastated the impoverished Caribbean nation’s capital.
12 January, 2010. New-York - Kyiv - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on member countries to mobilize to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, known as MDGs aimed at ending poverty, disease and hunger. In remarks to the General Assembly, Mr. Ban set out an agenda for the year ahead.
12 January 2010. Kyiv, Ukraine – UN Resident Coordinator Olivier Adam
encouraged local organizations battling the AIDS epidemic in Ukraine to
consider competing for a 2010 Red Ribbon Award. Red
Ribbon Award calls for nominations to honour community leadership and
action on AIDS. The Award honours community-based organisations for
their contributions in responding to the AIDS epidemic.

The UN Office will submit on a regular basis human rights protection
related literature to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
As the Ministry of Justice press service
informed, Minister of Justice Mykola Onishchuk stated that the
activities carried out within the framework of cooperation projects
between the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice and the UN Office in Ukraine.
19 December 2009. Copenhagen - Kyiv – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
today welcomed the climate change deal reached by world leaders at a
United Nations summit in Copenhagen, calling it an "essential
beginning" that contains progress on all key fronts, but adding that
work must now focus on turning the deal into a legally binding treaty.
