become a part of democratization of our society.
8 September 2008. New-York – Kyiv – On International Literacy Day UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called upon world community to take action
towards promotion of literacy throughout the globe. In his message he stated
that literacy is a necessary component in achieving Millennium Development
Goals.
4 September 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine (UNDP)
together with the Delegation of European Commission to Ukraine have
launched a new project entitled Women and Children Rights in Ukraine.
2 September 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine – Starting from August 16th a group of international
volunteers from Croatia, England, Italy,
USA, the Netherlands, Japan
and Ukraine
visited 5 villages and towns in Chronobyl zone, 3 in Rivne and Zhytomyr oblast. The goal of the
joint campaign organised by UNV Ukraine and Ukrainian Association for Youth
Cooperation “Alternative-V” was to promote volunteering and active citizenship
among Ukrainian youth. Mobilizing the younger generations to resolve current
problems at a local level is essential for the development of Ukrainian
society.
12 August, 2008. On International Youth Day, observed worldwide on the 12th of August, UNFPA Executive Director Thoraya Ahmed Obaid called to recognize the potential of youth in tackling the greatest challenges of our times. In her message, she has reminded that young people are a dynamic force for positive change and they can contribute to the world’s efforts to overcome the threat of climate change, one of the defining challenges of our time.
8 August 2008. Ivano-Frankivsk - Today the UN fact-finding mission led by Francis O'DONNELL, UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, has completed their two-day visit to Ivano-Frankivsk. On 7-8 August 2008 the UN team including UNICEF Representative in Ukraine, WHO Representative and experts of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) had a chance to assess the current humanitarian situation and medium and long-term recovery needs.
7 August 2008, Ivano-Frankivsk: Today Francis O’DONNELL, UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, met with the Chairman of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council Igor OLIYNYK. The meeting has been conducted over the ongoing UN fact-finding mission’s two-day visit to the region aimed at assessing the current humanitarian situation and medium and long-term flood recovery needs in Western Ukraine.
6 August 2008. Kyiv - Today the UN fact-finding mission led by Francis O’DONNELL, UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine, has left Kyiv for Ivano-Frankivsk. On 7-8 August 2008 the UN team including Jeremy HARTLEY, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine, and experts of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) will assess the current humanitarian situation and medium and long-term recovery needs.

People is observed. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed world community
on the occasion of this intenational day and urged them to protcect and promote
rights of indigenous people and their languages.
