High-Profile Event to Promote Healthy Lifestyle in Donetsk region
These days the UN Goodwill Ambassador Ms. Lilia Podkopayeva, Absolute Champion of Europe, the World, and Olympic Games in gymnastics has organized a series of events devoted to advocacy of healthy lifestyle and HIV prevention among youth of Donetsk region. The events included a press-conference devoted to the issue of healthy lifestyle, publicity around HIV/AIDS epidemics in Donetsk region and its consequences for young people. Representatives from the UN Country team, the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine, Donetsk oblast State Administration and other Governmental institutions, as well as representatives from other international donor organizations, private business sector, and well-known sport stars have participated in the press-conference. The press-conference was attended by a big number of journalists from all major TV, radio stations, and newspapers.
Apart from the press-conference, a visit to the oblast special orphanage for HIV-positive children in Makeevka city was organized. The mission was able to look at the orphanage, talk with medical personnel and children who live there, assess the progress made by the orphanage administration in providing help to HIV-positive children, learn the needs, and look into possibility to support the orphanage in the future.
The visit was concluded by the specially-organized sports show “Ironman”, devoted to promotion of healthy lifestyle. Many famous sport stars and bodybuilders have participated in the event. Among them the well-known bodybuilder Anatoliy Zavadski, dancers from the ballet school of the famous choreographer Vadim Pisarev, the famous Dmitry Khaladzhy, Guinness record holder and the absolute champion holding a title of the strongest man. The show was attended by a more then 3,000 young people: children and adolescents from orphanages, street children, and representatives of vulnerable groups.
