Global Compact Network Meeting on 29 June, 2006 at the UN House

The first Global Compact Network in Ukraine working meeting took place at the UN House on 29 June, 2006. During the meeting Mr. Francis M. O’Donnell, UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Ruken Tekes Calikusu, UN Coordination Specialist and Ms. Birdie Knightly, Global Compact Focal Pointalong with 27 representatives of the Global Compact Network in Ukraine welcomed new members of the network and discussed the Action Plan for June-December 2006.

Greeting the participants, Mr. O’Donnell called the Global Compact members to develop a common platform for change in the country. On behalf of the UN Country team Mr. O’Donnell promised to provide the members with all necessary information and experience the UN has received through its development network.
“The starting number of Global Compact members in Ukraine is comparatively high and there is growing interest to it from business sector” noted Ms. Tekes, reporting about the recent Regional Global Compact meeting in Vienna. She called the members to encourage their partners to join the network, suggesting an objective to increase the number of participants from 41 currently to 100 by the end of the year.

Following the agenda of the meeting, the participants discussed the Network Action plan and were updated on the integrity measures within the Global Compact Network. Finally, the parties agreed to convey for the next meeting in September.
