July 21, 2006. Kyiv. A new partnership agreement on supporting economic reforms in Ukraine was signed today between the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine. The project will support economic reforms in Ukraine in macroeconomics, international integration (with focus on Ukraine's accession to the World Trade Organization), regulatory policy and private sector development, monetary and fiscal policy and agricultural policies. The European Commission contributes 900.000 Euro to the project budget for the years 2006-2007. Signing the agreement, the Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, Ian Boag, stressed: "The European Commission keeps firmly committed to supporting Ukraine on its path of economic reform. I strongly believe that this newly signed agreement will play an important part in advancing the implementation of the economic part of the EU-Ukraine Action Plan". “The UNDP and the European Commission have a significant record of cooperation in various areas in Ukraine. We hope that this new partnership agreement will enhance the public policy dialogue and policy formulation in socio-economic sphere contributing to boost the economic growth and improve living standards,” noted Mr. Francis O’Donnell, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine. Advisory and capacity development services will be provided by the Blue Ribbon Analytical and Advisory Centre (BRAAC). BRAAC is a body of national and international experts, created in July 2005 as a follow up to the two Blue Ribbon Commission Reports presented in 2005 to assist the Ukrainian President and Government in formulating and implementing a new wave of reforms. The mission of the BRAAC is to support the next stage of social and economic transformation in Ukraine by mobilizing a wide constituency of reform-oriented policy- and decision-makers to pursue market-oriented reforms and economic growth in Ukraine.
