18 April, 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - Today UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States Kori Udovički met the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk.
During the meeting, Arseniy Yatsenyuk thanked Kori Udovički for the continuous assistance the UN System has been providing to Ukraine, aimed at the country's overall social economic development.
He also praised the pro-active role UN and UNDP play in Crimea, targeted at strengthening decentralization and building the local democratic governance.
Ukrainian Speaker mentioned the importance of UNDP's advocacy actions in promoting some of the important human development issues through organising large-scale conferences, like the one organised earlier this week - International Conference on Poverty Alleviation in Kyiv.
Assistant Administrator Udovički told Speaker Yatsenyuk that UN Development Programme in Ukraine was ready to offer its assistance in the area of fiscal decentralization in Ukraine. She appreciated the ratification of international Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities and Convention on migration at the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada.
Earlier today Kori Udovički also met with Shely Esque, Intel Global Director for Corporate Affairs, visiting Kyiv. Intel has been UNDP partner within the UN Global Compact in Ukraine.
In the afternoon UNDP Assistant Administrator left Kyiv for Simferopol where meetings are planned with the representatives of local authorities of Crimea and meetings with technical assistance projects staff implemented by UNDP-led Crimea Integration and Development Programme.

Kori Udovički, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and UNDP Regional Director for Europe and CIS has arrived on her first official five-day visit to Ukraine from 15 till 19 April.
During her stay in Kyiv, Ms. Udovički opened an International Conference on Poverty Alleviation organized by UNDP in Ukraine, met with the Ukrainian officials and the representatives of international donor organizations and UN partners in Ukraine. On Saturday, 19 April, she will visit Simferopol where meetings are planned with the representatives of local authorities of Crimea and meetings with technical assistance projects staff implemented by UNDP Crimea Integration and Development Program.
