Business leaders clean up city within the framework of "Go Green" national campaign of UN Global Compact Network in Ukraine

global_compact.jpg 11 October 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - UN Global Compact Network in Ukraine conducted clean-up event "Clean City is a Beautiful Place to Be".

This is already the second collective action in the framework of “Go Green” national campaign on climate change, presented in July 2008. The event was held at Trukhaniv island in Kyiv on Saturday, October 11, 11:00-13:30. More than 100 representatives of business-, diplomatic- and art community, representatives of the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, Kyiv City Administration and public organizations took part in the event.

Ms. Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Ms. Svitlana Aridova, Deputy Head of Communications Department, Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, diplomatic corps and Kyiv City Administration representatives welcomed the participants of the clean up event.

During the clean-up, participants, armed with the pair of gloves and garbage bags, actively collected garbage off the Territory of Trukhaniv Island and Matviyivska zatoka. Artistsfrom the Foundation for Modern Art Development “Eidos” worked hard on creating interesting art objects with ecological focus.

Coca-Cola and Vitmark provided tasty soft drinks; gloves and garbage bags were provided by the company Tetra Pak. All garbage was collected by the company Greenco and taken to the Recycling Center Greenco for further processing. Entertainment program was kindly provided by Coca-Cola. Almost 5 tons of garbage was collected in the result of the event.

As a sign of gratitude all participants of the event received “Go Green” pins, produced by the Institute for Oil Transportation and the most active participants received art objects created by the artists during the event.
