Aid Coordination and Paris Declaration: Opportunities to Pursue
On 14 February 2007 the Workshop on Aid Coordination and Paris Declaration was jointly organized by the United Nations Office in Ukraine and Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The workshop was aimed at presenting the Paris Declaration and its implications, focusing on the opportunities and implications when Ukrainian Government signs up, discussion of responsibilities of donors emanating from the Paris Declaration, and assessing the status of Ukraine in terms of aid coordination.

Maria Sharapova is Appointed UNDP Goodwill Ambassador
New York, 14 February 2007—At a ceremony today at United Nations headquarters, the world’s top-ranked women’s tennis player, Maria Sharapova, was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). At the same time, Sharapova announced a donation of $100,000 to UNDP Chernobyl-recovery projects.

UN Special Rapporteur on toxic wastes calls for urgent actions to withstand potential negative health and human rights impact in Ukraine
Over 21-31 January 2007 the Government of Ukraine hosted the fact-finding mission by Mr. Okechukwu IBEANU, the UN Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of the illicit movement and dumping of toxic and dangerous products and wastes on the enjoyment of human rights. The mission was conducted in close cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the United Nations Country Team in Ukraine.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Toxic Wastes Pays Visit to Ukraine
What: The UN Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of the illicit movement and dumping of toxic and dangerous products and wastes on the enjoyment of human rights Mr. Okechukwu IBEANU pays a visit to Ukraine on 22-30 January, 2007. Following the invitation of the Government of Ukraine, Mr. Ibeanu will meet with the representatives of the respective ministries and civil society organizations to discuss the state of affairs in Ukraine with the transboundary movement and dumping of dangerous products and their effects on human rights. The press-conference on the results of this visit will be held on January 30.
