ILO-IPEC Round-Table Discussion «Trafficking and other Worst Forms of Child Labour in Central and Eastern Europe»
11 November 2009, Kyiv, Ukraine. ─ On 30 October, 2009,
International Programme on Elimination of Child Labour, International
Labour Organization (ILO-IPEC) in Ukraine organized a round-table
discussion based on the results of independent final evaluation of the
phase II of the project «Trafficking and other Worst Forms of Child
Labour in Central and Eastern Europe». Among the participants of the
round-table were Mr. Stephane Jeannet, independent evaluator, Mr. Vasyl
Kostrytsya, ILO National Coordinator in Ukraine, Ms. Tetyana Minenko,
ILO-IPEC National Programme Manager, representatives of key ministries,
social partners, international and non-governmental organizations.

Today at the press brifing held by Ministry of Health of Ukraine Mr.
Jukka Pukkila, Leader of the WHO team, made the following statement: "Seven
days ago the Government of Ukraine issued a health alert after
reporting a dramatic increase in the number of people with
influenza-like illness. This was shortly followed by a request from the
Government for assistance from World Health Organization to further
investigate the situation.

Ukraine celebrated 64th Anniversary of the United Nations
28 October, 2009 – Kyiv, Ukraine – During 13 – 28 October the observance of the UN Day took place in Ukraine.
On 21 – 22 October 2009 United Nations System Agencies
presented information materials about their recent researches and
projects experience at Information Fair at the Verhovna Rada of
Ukraine. UN Office in Ukraine, UNAIDS, UNDP/MGSDP, Office of the World
Bank and IFC in Ukraine, UNHCR, ILO, IOM, UNICEF, UNFPA granted more
than 70 publications to distribute among the members of parliament,
their assistants and personnel of Apparatus of Verhovna Rada of
Ukraine. During the Informational Fair more than 500 books and
brochures were distributed by the UN representatives, and around 200
copies handed over to the Parliamentary Library.

“Stand Up, Take Action, End Poverty Now!” events, setting new world
record for largest mobilization in history
A Guinness World Record
shattered this weekend when 173,045,325 citizens gathered at over 3,000
events in more than 120 countries, demanding that their governments
eradicate extreme poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs). “Stand Up, Take Action, End Poverty Now!”, in its fourth year,
has been certified by Guinness World Records as the largest
mobilization of human beings in recorded history, an increase of about
57 million people over last year.
