George Clooney makes ad praising UN peacekeepers
30 May 2008. New York. George Clooney is marking Thursday's 60th anniversary of U.N. peacekeeping with a public service announcement praising the soldiers who wear the distinctive blue helmets. Clooney was named a U.N. Messenger of Peace in January by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with a special focus on U.N. peacekeeping. He has been actively campaigning to end the five-year conflict in Darfur and traveled to visit peacekeepers in Sudan soon after his appointment.

29 May, 2008. Kyiv-New York. Today the International Day of UN Peacekeepers is observed worldwide to pay tribute to people serving in peacekeeping operations and to honour memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace. Sixe decades ago the first UN peacekeeping mission was deployed. In Ukraine, a series of events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of UN peacekeeping were organized by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and supported by the United Nations office in Ukraine.

28 May 2008. New-York – Kyiv - "This year, the annual International Day of UN Peacekeepers also marks the 60th anniversary of UN peacekeeping. Six decades ago today, the Security Council established our first peacekeeping mission. Most of the peacekeepers came from a handful of European and American countries and they were mostly unarmed military men observing and monitoring cease-fire lines", says UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon in his statement to the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
