UN Action Plan Prepared for Chernobyl Decade
25 April 2008, New York - Kyiv —
At a high-level meeting of UN agencies convened today to mark the 22nd
anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident on
26 April 1986, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented a
draft “action plan” covering UN work on Chernobyl
until 2016. Preparation of the plan was mandated by a 2007 General Assembly
resolution, which proclaimed 2006-2016 the Decade of Recovery and Sustainable
Development of areas affected by Chernobyl.
The aim of the Decade is to promote a “return to normal life” for the region.
After review by the International Atomic Energy Agency, UNICEF, the World
Health Organization, and other agencies involved in recovery efforts, the UN
action plan will be approved later this year.

17-18 April 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine – The UN office in Ukraine presented its publications during the Infromation Fair in the Verkhovna Rada. The latest UN system books, surveys, brochures including materials from UNICEF, UNDP, ILO, UNAIDS, IOM, UN DPI and WB. Organized by the Indiana University Parliamentary Development Project this event gathered 36 international institutions and Ukrainian civil society organizations that introduced their publications to the memebers of the Ukrainian Parliament and their assistants.

1.63%. In order to develop a more effective national AIDS programme, the UN System in Ukraine strongly recommends extending its deadline beyond April 15, 2008 and revising the processes for its development so that the Programme can serve as a guide for the efforts of all state- and non-state partners.

Global price shocks threaten to increase poverty in Ukraine, says experts of UNDP-led international conference on poverty alleviation
