21 July 2009, Kyiv – Yukie Mokuo has been appointed as the new United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Ukraine. Today, Yukie Mokuo has presented her credentials to acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yuriy Kostenko.

22 July 2009. New-York – Kyiv - United Nations Department of Public Information announced the participants of Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalists’ Fellowship Programme. Ukraine will be represented by Ms. Nataliya Gumenyuk, Head of Foreign News Department, and special correspondent on Inter TV Channel. As a fellow she will have a chance to work at UN Headquarters as temporary UN correspondent.

On 11 July 2009 World Population Day was observed worldwide. The main focus of this year’s World Population Day: investing in women and girls. Investments in education and health for women and girls have been linked to increases in productivity, agricultural yields, and national income — all of which contribute to the achievement of the MDGs. Investments by governments worldwide have raised school enrolment rates, narrowed the gender gap in education, brought life-saving drugs to people living with AIDS, expanded HIV prevention, delivered bed nets to prevent malaria, and improved child health through immunization.

Geneva – Moscow – Kyiv – More than halfway to the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), major advances in the fight against poverty and hunger have begun to slow or even reverse as a result of the global economic and food crises, a progress report by the United Nations has found.
