Stand Up Against Poverty is the growing movement of people no longer prepared to stay seated or silent in the face of poverty and inequality. About 3000 Ukrainians joined world campaign against poverty on 17 October! In Ukraine Stand Up Against Poverty events took place for the second time across the country. On 17 - 19th October in Ukraine, 2915 people in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Chernivtsi, Cherkasy, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Poltava, Irpin stood up and supported the global movement against poverty. People united to stand up and challenge the world record. But the record we really want to break is the record of broken promises!

On October 17-19, 2008 STAND UP AND SPEAK OUT AGAINST POVERTY initiative was taking place for the second time in Ukraine devoted to the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. On 17 October "STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY" initiative took place for the first time in Ukraine devoted to the International Day of the Eradication of Poverty. In different cities of Ukraine about 5000 people symbolically stood up to support the global movement against poverty and set a new Guinness World Record.
Schools and universities, youth centers and civil society activists stood up against poverty and inequality and spoke out for MDGs in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskiy, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Ivankiv, Borodyanka, Slavutych.
